Do the grant funds I receive have an expiration date?

Indeed, it is a requirement that all grant funds be spent by June 1, 2024.

What happens if we relocate from Missouri?

If you relocate from Missouri after your application has been approved, you remain eligible for the Close the Gap Grant funds.

Can I continue using the funds in my student's account for eligible expenses after high school graduation?

You can, as long as the expenses have a payment request submitted before the deadline.

Is grant funding for my student assured from one year to the next?

No, the grant has only been funded for a single year.

Where is it permissible to utilize my award?

The Odyssey Marketplace has various educational services and products for your student. When your award is in your Odyssey account, you can decide how to use it. Click the [Marketplace] tab on your Odyssey Parent Portal to see what's available.

If you want to get money back for approved services or products not from the Odyssey Marketplace, click on [reimbursement] in the Odyssey portal and follow the steps to upload your receipt.

Are students currently enrolled in private or homeschooled settings eligible?

No, the grant's funding is designated exclusively for students within public school districts and charter schools.

What if our household income has changed since my Missouri State tax return was submitted?

Your 2022 Missouri State Tax Return will be used to verify your income, even if your household income has changed recently, such as if you have changed jobs. Your application will be reviewed manually if you did not file a 2022 Missouri State Tax Return.

Which educational services or products are eligible for the Close the Gap Grant?

Eligible educational services and products encompass:

1. Tutoring services
2. Academic day or summer camps
3. Arts-related day or summer camps
4. Educational materials and products
5. Computer equipment
6. Internet connectivity
7. Online access for academically related learning, including subscriptions
8. Software designed to support educational activities
9. Before- or after-school educational programs
10. Educational, learning, and study skills services
11. Costs associated with college credit for dual credit, dual enrollment, ITV, advanced placement, international baccalaureate
12. Art enrichment includes musical instruments, singing, and dance lessons.

How can a parent request reimbursement for an eligible service or product that they've already paid for?

To get a refund for eligible services and products bought between July 1, 2022, and June 1, 2024:

  1. Go to your dashboard and choose "Reimbursements".
  2. Upload a photo of your receipt (in PDF format). If you purchased a physical product, make sure the photo shows the model number, if available.
  3. Choose your preferred payment method, either by check or bank transfer.

Note: Only eligible services and products are eligible for a refund. Please check the refund policy for more information.

Are Foster Children Eligible for the Close the Gap Grant?

Foster children are automatically eligible for the Close the Gap Grant. Foster parents should apply just like any other parent and include the required documentation demonstrating guardianship of the foster child(ren).

What is the amount of the Close the Gap Grant award?

The Close the Gap Grant can give up to $1,500 per student, but because many apply, you might get less than that. Families with incomes below 185 percent of the federal poverty level get first priority. If there's money left, families with incomes above 185 percent can also get funding.

Will I be issued a check under the Close the Gap Grant?

No, you won't get a physical check. If your application is approved, the grant money will be in your parent's Odyssey account after November 1st. You can use it for eligible education expenses in the Odyssey Marketplace or ask for a refund for costs between July 1, 2022, and June 1, 2024, by uploading a receipt and the necessary documentation.
